How to Replace a Garden Fountain Pump with a Solar Pump

Image
Using a solar-powered pump gives you the flexibility to operate your garden fountain just about anywhere on your property, freeing you from using a pump that is tethered to an electrical outlet. Plus, swapping an electrically powered pump for a solar-powered pump enables you to transform your garden fountain into an environmentally friendly, or a "green," water feature. The solar-powered pump's initial expense pays off because the garden fountain no longer draws electricity; that factor reduces your electric bill. 1 Unplug the existing alternating-current (AC) pump from its electrical outlet. Devices that plug directly into an electrical outlet are commonly referred to as AC devices in reference to the type of electrical current they use. Disconnect the AC pump's flexible tubing, and remove the pump from the water. 2 Read the directions included in the solar-powered pump kit, and familiarize yourself with the kit's parts. The kit typically includes a submersibl...

CQURE:No Watering Required; Artificial Plant BedBy Cyind

Image
Save watering cost with drought friendly silk plants. Last week I planted many different types of artificial plants in my outdoor flower-bed and it looks great. I bought a bunch of Artificial Flowers  at cqure last year. Since my neighbors thought they were real and they weathered the winter rain and last year's sunshine so well, I decided to buy more. This year I also bought a dozen plastic "grass tufts", they are silver in color like dusty millers and I stuck them in between the rock edging. These make the whole plant-bed look so nice, kind of like a "rock garden". Last spring I also added fake flowers  in the bed, but I've found that with just plants and no flowers I can leave the flower-bed like this all year long because it's not the least bit "seasonal". But if you want color and you do decide to add silk flowers to your flower-beds, (and want your neighbors to think your flowers are real), you'll have to change your "display...

Biling:How To Choose The Right Solar Lights

Image
Using   solar lighting  outdoors can be a lifesaver when outdoor outlets are not available. But do solar-powered lights really work? How do they measure up to hardwired electric lights? And what if your yard is shady or you live somewhere that rarely sees the sun? Here’s the full scoop on choosing and using solar-powered lights in your yard. How  solar lighting  works. Photovoltaic cells absorb sunlight during the day to charge the batteries, which then light the bulb at night. Because solar lights are powered by the sun, they must be placed in an area that receives full sun — ideally eight or more hours per day. What if you don’t have direct sun? If you are putting solar lights in your desert yard in Tucscon or Palm Springs, they are sure to operate at maximum strength — but what if you live in Seattle or simply have a heavily shaded yard? It’s not quite as simple, but you can still have solar-powered lights, even in a fully shaded area. A solar or landscape ...

The Working Principle Of Solar Lights

Image
any years ago, the thought of powering lights by harnessing the power of the Sun sounded like science fiction. Today, though, you can see solar panels dotting the rooftops of buildings and houses, as well as street lights in some cities. What was once a dream has become reality, In fact, you might even have solar power at your fingertips in the form of a solar-powered calculator. If you have a garden or landscaping at home, you might even have solar-powered lights guiding your path at night. Have you ever stopped to WONDER exactly how these affordable solar lights convert the Sun's rays into electricity to power lights that shine for hours after the Sun goes down? Is it magic? Nope! It's science! Solar lights work because of the photovoltaic effect. The most important part of a solar light is the photovoltaic or solar cell. The solar cell is the part that converts sunlight into direct electrical current. You can clearly see the solar cell as a dark panel at the top of a so...
